About Catherine Herlinger

I worked at Aberdeen Proving Ground as a Public Affairs Specialist for 14 years, six of those years as a GS-1035-13. During my time in the federal government, I developed and implemented communications strategies to address sensitive and controversial issues, such as those surrounding the Army’s chemical weapons disposal program. I wrote press releases, speeches, fliers, brochures, radio spots, video scripts, and even created a quarterly military newsletter, The Environmental Update, and was the editor/writer. I wrote personality features and technical articles that were published in local community and military newspapers. I was the media spokesperson for various Army programs and responded to media, congressional and public queries. I served as the DA program manager for all Restoration Advisory Board public affairs issues. In my current position at Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna, I update the website; post on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter; track social media posts and schedule upcoming posts; write press releases and media advisories and serve as the media point of contact; create and send email newsletters; and, write homeowner stories. I’m also a freelance editor/writer for the annual travel guide Destination Maryland which is available at tourist information centers throughout Maryland. In my spare time, I volunteer for groups needing marketing and media assistance. In recent years, I have been a freelance editor/writer/fact-checker for JigSaw Marketing Solutions in Bel Air; a ghostwriter for CadmiumCD in Forest Hill; and, a longtime PR volunteer for nonprofit groups. Regarding my nonprofit volunteer work, I’ve demonstrated my proficiency with Microsoft Office products as a strategic fundraising planner, publicist, newsletter creator/editor, and/or press release writer for local churches, a middle school, a Harford County writers’ group, and a Forest Hill MOMS Club.
