About Catherine Lavarre

I love fiction, and my dream is to work in publishing. I found my passion in how the written word brings people together. I began thinking about how stories are told as a small child, writing short children’s books with illustrations about Cat and Dog, and their friend Fish. A successful writer grabs the audience, draws them in, and helps them walk in another's shoes. Ultimately, they make their audience think. As a reader, an editor, a writer, and a teacher, I approach every written piece with these goals in mind. As a student at NYU's Summer Publishing Institute, I'm learning how every medium and publishing professional can play a pivotal role in sharing stories that amuse, instruct, and inspire. As an editor at Edhat.com, our stories brought together business owners, law enforcement, and the broader community. In my role as assistant English Teacher in the Czech Republic, childhood books and stories from my life fostered relationships with native students. As a stage manager, I coordinated and united the cast and crew while together we communicated our story. I published a young adult novella (see: with the dream of reaching readers. Even apart from a professional setting, I seek out connections. I may connect with a 19th-century author, while I read a novel with a hot drink and a blanket. I may connect with a Generation Z creator on Tiktok. Or perhaps, through multiple Zoom calls, I may connect with everyone I can't physically meet with during the pandemic. I can't wait to connect with you too.
