About Catherine McCorkill

Musician - Artist - ESL teacher - Academic Catherine McCorkill is a prize winning visual artist, completing a MA (Studio Arts) at the Florence Academy of Art, Italy, in 2023. Previously, she had a career as a professional musician since the age of 16, playing clarinet as a soloist and working full-time with several Australian orchestras, and as core member of chamber music ensembles, notably the Australia Ensemble, resident at the University of New South Wales, Sydney. For 2 decades, Catherine was the regular principal clarinetist with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and toured nationally as a soloist playing Mozart's Clarinet concerto in 1997. She has held positions at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, the Victorian College of the Arts, the WA Academy of Performing Arts, and was a guest lecturer at the Australian National Academy of Music and Australian National University. A Churchill Fellowship, after post-grad ANU studies, gave her the opportunity to spend 15 months studying with leading teachers and performers in the UK, Europe and the US. More recently, she has focussed on the visual visual arts, with a particular interest in portraiture in oil painting. As an English Second Language (ESL) teacher, Catherine has worked for the Nan Tien Buddhist Institute and UTS Insearcv and as a volunteer worker for Mission Australia and the Blue Mountains Refugee Support Group.
