A person starts to heal the moment they feel heard” – Cheryl Richardson It is not a therapist’s job to tell a person what to do, or to solve all their problems. A therapist joins the person on their journey of self-discovery, understanding, and embracing their story, guiding them through the sometimes treacherous landscape. We cannot change our past, we cannot change what happened or how we reacted to those situations, but we can change the way that we react now, the way we solve problems, interact with others, and tell our stories. I believe that once an individual accepts and processes their experiences, their outlook changes. They lean into emotions instead of away, they understand themselves, and then they start to heal. Change and growth does not come quickly or without effort and some discomfort, but it is absolutely possible. In a supportive environment, an individual can be authentic and true to themselves. This belief, as well as my own experiences, led me to providing trauma-informed care, maternal mental health services, perinatal mental health services (PMH), and EMDR therapy. I also support those going through life transitions, struggling with self-acceptance and self-compassion, as well as those looking to explore their identity and values.
