About Catherine Rioufol

Catherine Rioufol is Professor of Clinical Pharmacy & Hospital Pharmacist in the Claude Bernard University of Lyon & Hospices Civils de Lyon, France, and part of the EA 3738 research team of the Lyon Oncology Innovation Center (CICLY) as co-director of team 3 “Optimization of anticancer drugs”. She was President of the French Society of Oncology Pharmacy SFP0 (2020-2024). She runs the pharmacy department of the Lyon Sud hospital. She specializes in cancer care and therapeutic innovation. Her clinical activity focuses on cancer treatments, from early-phase clinical trials to market access and real-life use : preparation of injectable chemotherapy, immunotherapy and CAR T-cells, administration to the patient and follow-up, including patient education. In 2014, she set up Oncoral, a multidisciplinary community-hospital follow-up program for outpatients under oral anticancer drug, aiming to secure the therapeutic pathway. She also set up the Pacome (Patient Cancer Oral Medication) database for real-life use of anticancer drugs, iatrogenic effects, quality of life, social vulnerability and access to innovation in the Oncoral cohort. She is principal investigator in 3 clinical trials in this field. Since 2021, Oncoral has been one of the pilot sites for the French governmental multicenter Article 51 OncoLink experimental program, which aims to include patients under oral anticancer drug over 2021-2024. Her new care & research program OncoHcity consists in securing the pathway of cancer patients receiving innovative treatments such as CAR T-cells, conjugated or bispecific antibodies or innovative oncologic surgery strategies, and assessing these in real life by means of the new SCARLET database: Study of Cancer patients with Real Life Experiences and Therapies. The OncoHcity pathway & SCARLET real-world database constitute a major transfer of expertise from Oncoral & Pacome, and corresponding major spin-off can be expected in terms of clinical benefit, care organization and real-world evidence in anticancer drug assessment and access to innovation. She has acquired authentic expertise in innovative management of cancer patients, care pathways and real-world clinical, therapeutic and social assessment with a view to securing these pathways and taking better account of social vulnerabilities, so as to reduce their impact on cancer and access to innovative treatments. She shares her findings in her teaching modules in Lyon University, in many scientific publications in oncology, and in her numerous well-received lectures and presentations.
