About Catherine Thompson

I am currently employed in the heritage and museum sector, and I love getting the opportunity to lead tours and workshops with the aim of engaging children, young people and adults with history. As a result, I am confident in engaging with a wide range of people of different ages, abilities and interests. I am also responsible for taking on clerical/admin duties as and when they are required.I completed a Masters in Public History, with commendation, in December 2020 at QUB. This postgraduate study enabled me to enhance my research skills & complete a number of different projects related to public engagement with history & heritage in N. Ireland. My work included archival research, regular engagement on social media platforms, and a placement with the curatorial department at Hillsborough Castle. During the summer of 2020, I completed a dissertation which involved original research and source-work, centred upon a significant, but relatively under-researched, female diarist of 17th-century British history. For the past 10 years I have been involved in children and youth work, both within a workplace setting and also within a faith-based/community setting. As a result of the work I completed as part of my MA, I gained experience in working directly with the public, and have developed a passion for improving children's engagement with local heritage and history.Through the work that I have completed, I have proven my ability to be focused, conscientious and reliable. I have gained a high level of skill in written and oral presentations. I am confident in working to deadlines and producing work of a high standard. I have good working skills in using a range of social media, virtual platforms, and Microsoft Office.
