About Cathy Challinor

I use design narrative, a strong design focus, and technical expertise to deliver sensitivity and technical rigour to a range of high profile, sensitive and complex public domain projects.I have had the privilege of working with key clients and to engage with Mana Whenua representatives on many important projects. Recent work on the Puhi Kai Iti Cook Landing Site project in Gisborne allowed me to work with complex and layered landscapes to express both known and unknown stories in a variety of ways. Recent work on memorial and cultural projects such as the Passchendaele Memorial and Garden in Belgium, and Te Onewa in Auckland has allowed me to hone these skills in a proven environment with a built result. With extensive experience working on design-led projects, I combine a creative design approach with experience leading the design and documentation phases of projects. I focus on practicing design as a process throughout the life of the project, from concept to construction documentation. I am strongly committed to working with consultant teams and technical specialists to create quality outcomes that meet project requirements. My interest in historical and cultural narratives allows my design work to be grounded in the site, while seeking beauty and simplicity in the outcome.
