I am fresh out of high school and looking to start a career in the dog world. I started immersing myself into the dog world 4 years ago and my experiences have molded me into a knowledgeable and devoted person. I never imagined I would pursue a career with dogs, but my experiences at Haven Humane opened up my eyes to my talents and how well this area of work fits me. History with Dogs: At Haven Humane Society, I've spent 4 years and over 500 hours as an assistant trainer And as you can imagine, I've worked with dogs of many different breeds and temperaments. I've also been a counselor in 5 of Haven Humane's Camp Love-A-Pet programs, working with kids and helping teach them the skills to work with the shelter dog that they were paired with for the 2 weeks of camp. From there I went on to train my personal dog to be a Diabetic Alert Service Dog who passed his Public Access Test developed by ADI. He also earned his obedience certificate through the sport of Mondioring. I've competed in and trained for a variety of other sports including dock jumping, weight pulling, Schutzhund, obedience/rally obedience, and lure coursing. How do I work the dogs? I use force free, reward based, fun methods based on building a strong partnership that creates a dog who wants to work for their handler. I start by building engagement (a desire to work with the handler) and go from there. I'm also well versed in clicker training and willing to teach things such as how to free shape fun behaviors.
