About Celia Edell

I specialize in relaying complex philosophical ideas to those inside and outside of the academic bubble. I hold a doctorate in Philosophy from McGill University (2022), and currently work as a researcher and lecturer at University of British Columbia. As a researcher, I'm well versed in editing and revision of drafts, publishing, collaboration with other researchers, and independent editorial work. I'm also a successful grant application writer. As an educator, I've designed and taught my own courses; supervised and mentored 40+ undergraduates' final research papers, produced original lecture material and led discussions. I have also taught classes of 100+ students and presented at several professional conferences. Community service is important to me. I co-founded the McGill chapter of Minorities and Philosophy (MAP), an international movement that aims to address structural issues of inequality and injustice in academic philosophy. I've served as a representative on multiple Equity and Climate Committees, and as VP of EDI for the UBC Postdoctoral Association. Last but not least, I have a decade of experience publishing writing online about ethical issues including racial injustice, gender inequality, and mental health stigma. I've built an online following of around people who engage with my work on these issues.
