About Celine Kavalec

I've been an educator for 34 years at Valencia College in different capacities but always connected to teaching. The arc of my career has taken me from classroom teacher to program director and back to classroom teacher, now a more conscious, centered instructor. I spent 23 years developing faculty and leading program design and execution for the tenure program at Valencia and have used those skills in my work with the Peace and Justice Institute (PJI) these past four years while also integrating mindfulness into PJI programming. Dis-ease and relational pain led me to meditation over 20 years ago, when I learned to meditate from an energy healer, Maria De St Croix, in Red Bank, New Jersey. This early mantra-based meditation method eventually led me to mindfulness mediation. The journey towards becoming an MBSR instructor was a natural evolution in my consciousness and development as a teacher. Currently, I am a qualified MBSR teacher, trained through the University of Massachusetts Center for Mindfulness and Brown University and have received Qualified Teacher status from both institutions. My teacher training continues with Brown. Through Valencia, A Mindful Center, and PJI, I teach mindfulness to students, faculty, and the community. I entered teaching because of a desire to help others and see mindfulness as a means to bring healing and greater joy to myself and others. I wish you presence and peace.
