What I do: Vacuum Insulated Glass (VIG), Advancing the Future of Sustainable Buildings I am a Research Scientist at the University of Sydney, specialising in the science, engineering, testing and manufacturing, of the Vacuum Insulated Glass (VIG) The VIG is an innovative technology that significantly enhances energy efficiency in buildings. My mission is to accelerate the adoption of VIG in the global market, driving real-world impact for both sustainability and climate change mitigation. Why VIG? • VIG technology outperforms traditional double and triple insulating glazing products, providing ultra-high thermal insulation with a slim profile and greater durability. • With ISO and NFRC standards now published and industry adoption growing, we are at a tipping point for widespread implementation. EN, CEN and ASTM standards are to be completed in the next few years. • The demand for highly insulating windows in retrofits is increasing, driven by greater awareness of energy efficiency, and the significant climate change mitigation outcomes. What I Do • Conduct cutting-edge research on VIG technology and its design, testing, manufacturing, for the whole product and the components, and the related equipment. • Collaborate with industry partners to bring VIG to test, improve manufacturing, and increase market uptake. • Advocate for energy-efficient glazing solutions to help reduce global carbon footprints.
