Background
About Cephas Mandizvidza
For the past 10 years, Cephas has focused on environmental management, planning, the promotion, adaptation and transfer of environmentally sound technologies. He has also participated in the development and implementation of sectoral policies, specific tools and programmes on environmental planning and management hence an experienced Environmental and Social Safeguards Specialist. To date; he has carried out a lot of Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs). The public consultation activities enhanced his qualitative research skills over the years and therefore can communicate scientific issues to diverse audiences without challenges. Over the years, he has gained a lot of experience in environmental safeguards and has therefore developed, implemented and evaluated several Environmental Management Plans (EMPs), Grievance Redress Mechanisms (GRMs), Social Management Plans (SMPs), Environmental, Health and Social Plans (EHSPs) and Environmental and Social Management Frameworks (ESMFs) that meet World Bank Standards. He also advises industry on good environmental stewardship in their operations. To this effect, he has carried out several Industrial Emissions and Environmental Monitoring (IEEM) surveys in Zimbabwe and countries in the region such as Tanzania and Mozambique. In September 2021, Cephas was seconded as the Legal Entity Appointed Representative (LEAR) and the senior project officer for Zimbabwe’s Scientific and Industrial Research and Development Centre / Zimbabwe National Cleaner Production Centre (SIRDC/ZNCPC) in the European Commission funded project -“Horizon 2020 research project; A Just Transition to Circular Economy – JUST2CE”. The main project coordination is by the University of Barcelona, which has formed a consortium of 14 institutes from Europe and Africa. Apart from coordinating the project at SIRDC/ZNCPC; in the consortium, Cephas is leading a task to create a Global Atlas of Circular Economy (CE) practices and initiatives accessible via a Geographical Information System (GIS) that will run on a web service integrated with the website of the project. Updating of the atlas will be done during the entire duration of the project and will be online at least for 3 years after the end of the project. The other main technical task for Cephas will be to review and analyse the policies and interventions (international/regional) that have enabled / disabled the success of CE practices with the aim of improving the policies and interventions in low-income countries.
