About Chad Brears

After graduating high school in Cold Lake, Alberta I spent 3 years playing junior hockey in British Columbia. After 2 years with the Merritt Centennials, Junior A hockey club in the BCHL, I earned a hockey scholarship to the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). During my time at UAH I played all four years for the UAH Chargers Men's Ice Hockey program competing at the highest level of college hockey (NCAA Div.I) while also attaining a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Highlights from the four years include being named an assistant captain of the team in my senior year, being awarded the WCHA Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2013-14, multiple deans list honours, getting inducted into the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, and graduating with Summa Cum Laude Honors with a 3.97 GPA. After graduation I decided to pursue professional hockey. During the 2016-17 season I spent most of the year playing for the Columbus Cottonmouths of the SPHL gaining my first pro contract and experience competing at the professional level. The following summer I was offered a great opportunity to join the HYC Herentals professional hockey club in Herentals, Belgium. Having never been over seas I chose to sign the contract and join the team competing in the BeNeLiga for the 2017-18 hockey season as 1 of 3 out of country imports. Highlights during my time in Belgium include winning the Belgian Cup as the top team in Belgium, travelling across Europe including countries like Germany, France, Netherlands, Italy, and Austria as well as the numerous new relationships built along the way. Once the season ended in Belgium I got married that summer and decided to start my career in engineering. I accepted an offer to work as a Field Drilling Engineer with Chevron providing technical engineering support at the rig site for their unconventional shale assets in Fox Creek, Alberta. I spent nearly two years in the position facilitating and managing Chevron processes with multiple rig contracting crews.
