Background

About Chad Hostetler

I am a combat veteran of the United States Army and originally from Michigan. I have been in Washington State since 2001. One of my first jobs after returning to civilian life was as a security officer at the Port of Tacoma. This job helped me transition back to civilian life while at the same time maintaining my security mindset. In January of 2007 I took a position at the Washington State Dept. of Corrections as a Correctional Officer. My work with the incarcerated population over the past 14 years has included holding positions as Correctional Officer, Recreation Specialist, Classification Counselor, Facility Performance Coordinator, Correctional Unit Supervisor, and Special Emergency Response Team Leader. I am a certified instructor in almost every class that WADOC offers to include Defensive Tactics, TASER, Firearms, Use of Force, and Tactical Planning. I have received awards for Counselor of the Year, and Support Staff of the Year. I pride myself with being able to provide assistance to employees and the incarcerated population alike. The WADOC has given me opportunities to work in many different roles, allowing me to develop a statewide network of resources regarding emergency management and classification. Although most of my work experience has been in the Department of Corrections, I strongly believe the skills and experiences I have had, will easily transition into the public sector. I am a people person with strengths in organizing, planning, and managing people in stressful environments. I also use these skills in my work with youth sports in the community. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Respectfully, Chad Hostetler
