About Chad McFarland

Having served as a legal advisor, prosecutor, Chief, Military Justice, and deployed as Chief, Administrative & Civil Law in Iraq as a member of the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps, Chad handled a great swath of administrative or criminal matters that service members encounter. He has over 17 years of JAG experience ( over 8 years active duty) and provided effective representation in matters relating to courts-martial, nonjudicial punishment (Article 15), letters of reprimand, officer/enlisted elimination proceedings, ROTC and military academy disenrollment boards, discharge upgrades, appeals to all the Boards for Correction of Military Records, and Veterans Disability Compensation. Upon leaving active duty service, Chad served as a Senior Associate in the military practice group at Tully, Rinckey PLLC in Albany, NY from 2012 to 2015. Prior to joining that practice group, Chad served as Chief, Legal Assistance in Wiesbaden, Germany, where he provided family and matrimonial law, estate planning, counsel in military administrative actions, and other legal services to Soldiers, family members, civilian employees, and military retirees. Before that, Chad served in Baghdad, Iraq as the Chief, Administrative and Civil Law and Ethics Counselor for the Army’s largest division in Iraq. He advised, reviewed, and managed high-profile administrative investigations approved by the commanding general as well as advising officers on significant and high-profile matters pertaining to the “Wikileaks” investigation into the unauthorized disclosure of classified materials online. Attaining the rank of Major. Attorney McFarland's active duty experience includes serving as Chief, Military Justice; Chief, Administrative Law; Chief, Legal Assistance; Trial Counsel; and Legal Assistance Attorney. Attorney McFarland capably advised commanders and criminal law investigators on violations of the UCMJ and/or governing military regulations. Prosecuted over 50 courts-martial with over a 97% conviction rate. Litigation experience in scores of military separation boards.
