About Chadwick Smith

I work for CVS/Aetna as a medical director. I work with Commercially self-insured plan sponsors to improve the health and welfare of employees across the nation. My clinical experience involved practicing as an Emergency Physician across the state of WV. I have worked across the spectrum of Emergency Medicine, from critical access hospitals to level 1 trauma centers. Furthermore, I am Boarded in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics but have only practiced either of these in a part-time fashion at a rural health clinic. My true love is emergency medicine. I retain a broad knowledge of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, thus giving me the ability to practice hospital medicine or primary care if desired. My clinical experience supports my medical director role as I approach utilization management with the experience, knowledge, and skill required to make sound decisions regarding member benefits. My experience allows me to make decisions grounded in evidence-based medicine, but flexibility to recognize unique clinical situations that policies and evidence do not completely address. I am within one year of obtaining a Masters of Healthcare Management degree and this experience has broadened my administrative and policy skill set.
