About Chaka Hassen

An Epidemiologist with over 25 years of experiences working with multidisciplinary and multi-cultural teams as summarised below:Field service and Research: Experience as a veterinary officer in the field in animal disease management, research scientist at the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR), the National Animal Health and Diagnostic and Investigation Centre (now named as Animal Health Institute), both as an epidemiologist and analyst, expertise in design surveillance and control of TAD’s and zoonotic infections in strengthening epidemio-surveillance, animal health information systems, skilled in undertaking disease risk analysis, applied to trade of livestock and animal products, and understanding of risk factors for disease spread that contributes to decision making. I am conversant with the WOHA PVS pathway and its application.Regional and global engagements and networking: Extensive exposure and experience working with the Regional economic communities (IGAD, SADC), continental organization (AU-IBAR), globally currently working with FAO-WOAH PPR GEP secretariat and active engagement in the regional Epidemiology and laboratory networks, Regional Animal Health Network (RAHN).Project management and resource mobilization: Experienced in research, development and emergency livelihood projects management, coordination, partnership and resource mobilization.Teaching, trainings facilitation and consultancy: Experienced in development, organization, and implementation of need-based trainings in areas of animal health and production, especially in Participatory Epidemiology and surveillance. Served as visiting lecturer at Universities; mentored as well evaluated several undergraduate and graduate student research works; served as an associate editor of the Ethiopian veterinary Journal and engaged in several consultancy works in the areas of livestock health and production.
