About Chamal Ranathunga

Since I was young, I always had an interest & curiosity in solving problems and thus Mathematics became one of my favourite subjects in school. My curiosity about construction while passing by a construction site near my home, seeing how all the machinery, equipment and tools work together in building structures. Pursuing my passion, I have completed my Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree, specialising in Civil Engineering at the Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne where I learnt innovative concepts of Transport and Road Engineering, Project Planning and Management, Cost Engineering, Structural Design and Innovation, as well as engineering tools such as, 3. I have also gathered 2+ years of experience in large/medium-scale construction projects for roads, highways and bridges with commercial knowledge in tendering & BOQs, Project Management and Data-driven reporting: Delivered the Central expressway project (3.9Km) valued at AUD 32 Million, coordinating the project planning, cost estimation, financial reporting and controlling for piling, embankments, cut slope and soft ground treatment areas. Developed a framework for the budgeting and costing process for key projects including labour, material and overheads which helped to reduce the mobilization costs by 10%. Prepared BOQs through a framework to select the right parts and component reuse, improving order accuracy by 15%. I would love to bring my passion and curiosity in Civil Engineering & Construction Management to learn new technologies and discover trends & opportunities to build environmentally-conscious infrastructure solutions.
