About Chamara Jayalath

CPEng, BEng (Hons); PhD Chamara is a Chartered Senior Pavement Engineer with over four and a half years of industry experience and four years of research expertise in pavement engineering. He also brings three years of international experience in geotechnical and railway construction. Currently thriving at WSP, Chamara contributes to both local and interstate infrastructure projects. His role focuses on the design of new and rehabilitated pavements for developments ranging from minor upgrades to major transport corridors. He has delivered multidisciplinary projects across Australia for clients such as the Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR), VicRoads, and the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT), as well as for numerous local councils including Brisbane City Council (BCC). Chamara holds a PhD in Civil/Pavement Engineering, with research focused on the performance of geogrid-reinforced unpaved pavements under cyclic loading. His findings have been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals, and he has presented at pavement and geotechnical conferences in Hobart, Melbourne, Scotland, and Sri Lanka. Chamara's Professional Skills include but are not limited to; • Know-how in design calculations and specifications related to pavement design (e.g. major highways/motorways, local roads, rural highways, unsealed roads, haul roads, etc.), rehabilitation design, geotechnical investigation (scoping and undertaking), material testing and pavement management • Comprehensive understanding of Australian and State Pavement Design Supplements and Specifications; • Outstanding knowledge in CIRCLY and Rubicon packages; • Excellent analytical and critical thinking abilities with proven ability in analysing pavement engineering problems; • Diligent and safety conscious team player with experience in working in isolated site environments; • A proven ability to develop a positive working relationship with the staff, clients and other stakeholders; • Professionalism, accountability, good work ethics and positive attitude; • Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment.
