About Chance Johnson

As a Public Affairs Specialist with the Colorado Air National Guard, I serve as a key communicator and strategic storyteller, working to build and maintain strong relationships between the COANG and the public, media, and internal audiences. I am passionate about communicating to our local audiences about the impact that the COANG has on the community as citizen Airmen. I do this while showcasing how the tax payer’s money is being put to use by publishing content focusing on the constant training our members are engaged in to remain "Always Ready.” I am responsible for managing media relations, developing and distributing press materials, coordinating community engagement initiatives, and crafting content that highlights the mission, people, and impact of the COANG at the domestic, state and federal level. My role bridges the gap between service members and the public by ensuring transparency, trust, and a clear understanding of our operations and values by publishing information in the spirit of maximum disclosure, minimum delay. I collaborate closely with leadership and external partners to amplify our message across digital platforms, traditional media, and public events. Key Responsibilities: Draft and disseminate press releases, speeches, news stories and feature stories Respond to media queries and provide media training for leadership Oversee social media strategy and content production Manage crisis communication and internal information campaigns Support event planning and community outreach efforts Select Achievements: Wrote “140th Medical Group trains on Combat Casualty Care” which was re-published at the national level by National Guard Bureau on the importance of the new tactical combat casualty care and its importance in medical care in combat situations. Published several reels for social media during exercise Red Flag that were repurposed by National Guard Bureau to showcase the 140th Wing’s capabilities in a deployed environment. Recognized as “Civilian of the Quarter” for the Colorado Air National Guard in 2025 due to ability to excel beyond the expectations of my job requirements. “Colorado Air National Guard puts adversarial deterrence to the test at exercise Red Flag” was published in “Year in the Guard Magazine” to represent the COANG nationally. Produce and host the first podcast for the Colorado Air National Guard, 140th Wing Podcast, which reaches hundreds of Guardsmen to educate them on available resources, as well as casual interviews with key leaders.
