About Chansa Chishimba

I’m a Computer Science Lecturer at California State University and a Machine Learning Engineer with a strong interest in applied research. My work bridges academia and industry, combining hands-on software engineering with a deep curiosity about the theoretical foundations of machine learning and intelligent systems. In both my teaching and engineering roles, I focus on how we can better translate machine learning research into real-world impact—particularly in areas like education, health, and infrastructure. I enjoy mentoring students, designing practical curriculum, and collaborating on research-driven projects that push the boundaries of what’s possible with data and computation. Research interests include: Applied Machine Learning and AI Human-centered computing Educational technology and learning analytics AI for social impact Intersections of software systems and ML theory I’m actively exploring pathways to a PhD in machine learning or human-centered AI. I'm always open to connecting with fellow researchers, PhD students, or labs working at this intersection.
