About Charasay Powell

I am an Independent HR Consultant, Recruiter, & Content Writer, focusing on the "people" aspects of the field. I use my business and life experience to give my clients the results that they need! I began my professional career working in the local Criminal Justice system, later moving to Sales and Customer Service and Human Resources. I have worked for Fortune 500 Companies (MCI WorldCom, MBNA America, Armstrong World Industries, Alcoa) and County (Lancaster, PA) and State (Maryland) Government. I have had interesting work experiences. I helped to create Armstrong's first African-American Council, and at Alcoa I applied and sharpened my bilingual skills working with international accounts (particularly in Mexico),establishing strong business relationships with talented people. I learned TQM and Six Sigma methodologies firsthand. I have been a part of Training Teams, was on a project team that merged two customer service groups, and created an innovative method to numerically gauge complexity of client accounts so managers could more effectively balance workloads. I had the pleasure of being an Intake Officer and Investigator of Employment and Public Accommodation complaints (working with the EEOC and PHRC). As a Staffing Specialist, I worked with local and national clients across all industries placing employees at all career levels. These and other experiences have helped to prepare me for my current role. I enjoy all aspects of Human Resources, but my specific areas of interest are staffing, talent management, diversity initiatives, training and development, coaching, and mentoring. I have also been able to apply my business management and administration knowledge to help small start-up businesses to launch. I have also fulfilled my dream of becoming a published writer, both as a ghostwriter and in publications that I love, such as Madame Noire, Oceana (in Paris, France), and Recruiter Magazine. I have also written for educational publishers and blogs in the U.S, Europe, Asia, and South America. I am now acting editor of La Voz Latina Central and co-editor of Black Wall Street PA. I have been fortunate to learn from some of the best through formal (and informal) mentoring, and I'm glad to share what I've learned with others.
