About Charl Landvreugd

dr. Charl Landvreugd is an artistic researcher. In the realm of Migratory Aesthetics, Landvreugd researches the visual strategies of European artists with a focus on the production of cultural citizenship. He argues that the discourse dominated by post colonial theoretical frameworks does not always suffice in describing the continental European art production of people with a migrant background. He advocates for local European concepts and terms that have the potential to encapsulate the sensibilities of the area.Charl studied Fine Art & History of Art (joined hons.) at Goldsmiths University in London. As a Fulbright Fellow he continued his studies in Modern Art: Critical and Curatorial Studies at Columbia University in New York. He holds a PhD in Curating Contemporary Art from the Royal College of Art in London. His work has been published by:Small Axe Magazine (USA), ARC Magazine (St. Vincent & the Grenadines), Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam (NL), CBK Rotterdam (NL), Uprising Art (FR), NRC Handelsblad (NL), De Ware Tijd (SR), KIT Publishers (NL), Dominion of New York NY (USA), KadE Amersfoort (NL), De Unie Rotterdam (NL), TENT Rotterdam (NL), Volkskrant (NL), HYCIDE Magazine (USA), Metropolis M (NL), Antilliaans Dagblad (CW), and NTR Kunststof (NL), among others
