Background
About Charles Bartleson
I started my career in retail. As many people in retail can relate, I was a young kid, just looking to make some money to pay for my college bills. I started my career at Save-A-Lot Food Stores and was immediately noticed by the management team. I was a hard-working, young, high-schooler, who was overly dedicated, extremely positive and provided excellent customer service. As the years went by I worked my way up through, multiple states/divisions, and ultimately became a store manager for Save-A-Lot. I had achieved my career goal, and had everything I wanted. Within the first six months I had demonstrated great promise in my new role. Although everything was working out for me, I was still unhappy. I was not satisfied with my career although this had been a goal for me, for a long time. I started to think about what I wanted out of a career and unfortunately my career in retail could not provide that. I was looking for a career with work-life balance, flexible scheduling, and more opportunity. After a long hard look at where I was and where I wanted to be, I decided I wanted to transition to the financial industry. Although many people advised against it, I took a risk, and applied to an entry level position at M&T bank. After getting enough experience in the financial industry I was able to ultimately procure a job with JP-Morgan. I had executed my plan, and ultimately got everything I was looking for. A bright career with a lot of opportunity, excellent work-life balance, and a flexible schedule. While working at JP Morgan, I learned various roles and skills to help further my career. I started in Foreign Exchange trade processing, moved to Private Bank Investigations, and ended my career with JPM(the first go around) in the middle office working with fixed income, equity, FX Options, and Commodities. During the Pandemic my wife and I moved to Florida and I started a new role at Bank of New York Mellon. I worked in Collateral Reconciliation and also Depositary Receipts. Working with ADRs was possibly my favorite role due to the complex nature of the financial instrument and the challenge of learning everything involved with it. I currently am back in Delaware working with JP Morgan in DTC Custody Settlements. I am forever grateful for my time in retail as it taught me how to work with all types of people, cultures, races, ethnicities, personalities, and how to respect hard work. I am also grateful for my current and previous roles in the financial industry. They have been amazing and changed my life forever for the better.
