I'm a tenured professor of Applied Linguistics and TESOL with expertise in developing science-based online learning platforms, applications, and content, especially with regard to 2nd language vocabulary acquisition, corpus linguistics & extensive reading. For the past 30 years I've worked in Japan in a wide range of capacities, all with the overriding goal of doing whatever I possibly can to improve the quality of education over here. Much of my effort has been focused on creating online resources and technologies to improve the teaching of English as well as to innovate the way higher education is conducted online. I am probably best known for my many open-source vocabulary lists and learning tools found at CBC Consulting is an educational consulting firm that focuses on using my expertise in corpus linguistics, English education in Japan and online language learning to help companies succeed in the English language learning market in Asia. EFL Technologies http://efltechnologies.com is another company I've helped to build, primarily with a focus on promoting a large range of free extensive reading & listening tools and content available on our website while also building a proprietary multilingual dictionary for 2nd language learners of English. Recent work includes serving as Chief Educational Consultant for UFC Japan, eLearning Architect for iShine Professional College, and Online Learning and Pedagogy Consultant for OK Panda, Slang, NTT Learning Systems, Audible, Cognition-Point and Secret Builders. I helped to develop the learning platform and pedagogy for EnglishCentral an online language learning company that makes extensive use of my research in vocabulary acquisition and extensive reading to create fun and efficient tools for learning English via authentic video. I also hold multiple patents related to the WordEngine software I developed for Lexxica Corporation.
