About Charles Cox

Since long before the internet, I have been programming computers. Most recently, I worked for almost 10 years at 2Is Inc, a parts and software supplier to large organizations including the US Government. As Principal Software Developer, I helped development teams at all levels of design, creation, and deployment of large data, web-based, mathematical applications. My work at 2Is started from contract work I did at my previous company, Franz Inc, where I developed software for over 25 years. Franz is a premier creator of programming environments and applications including semantic network data base tools. Besides programming at Franz, I had a wide range of responsibilities including those of Marketing and Sales Support, Customer Support, and Training and Employee Development. At Franz, I studied Japanese for 5 years, performed tasks for Japanese companies, and made multiple visits to Japan. Colleagues know me as loyal, thorough, detail-oriented, helpful, and resourceful. For my entire time with 2Is, I was their sole remote employee. To ensure our communications would be successful, I took extra care to be frequent with my status reports and to be clear in my emails and other messages. I am intimately familiar with several object-oriented programming languages. I mostly use Common Lisp, but I also use C, and C++. I have also programmed in Java, C#, Objective-C, and a wide variety of scripting languages (for Unix shells, DOS, and others). I have developed on many versions of Unix/Linux, and on every Windows release since Windows 3.1 (1992). I have extensive web site experience including HTTP, XML, HTML, JavaScript, as well as some experience in jQuery. I developed a user-login website using HTTPS and certificates. In addition, I have low-level experience with SOAP, Corba, SMTP, NNTP, and others. I have a MS in Computer Science, and a BA (with honors) double-major in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley.
