ARTIST BIOGRAPHYCharles A. Gick is an interdisciplinary artist, combining and moving between painting, video, performance, photography, sculpture, and installation art. His work continues to receive both national and international recognition. He was the recipient of the Purdue University Affiliated Fellowship at the American Academy in Rome culminating in his 2013 exhibition titled “Run”. Gick installed a temporary installation at the Indianapolis International Airport from mid-November 2014 through mid-February 2015. Samples of his previous exhibitions include, solo installations: “Three Clouds in Waiting” at the Luminary Center for the Arts, St. Louis, Missouri, with image included in the September/October 2013 edition of “Art Ltd.”; “The Sky Is Falling, The Sky Is Falling: A Natural History of the Painted Cloud,” at North Central College; “Waiting,” an installation exhibited at the Carriage House, Long Island Center for Experimental Art, Islip Art Museum. His work has received exposure in several group exhibitions such as, the “Bi-National Exhibition” at the Paraguayan American Cultural Center and U.S. Embassy in Paraguay; “Videoholica” in Varna, Bulgaria and in Kansk, Russia. Gick was selected as the only US representative to be included in “Curated Special Selections from Videoholica,” which was exhibited in Belgrade, Serbia, Milan, Italy, and Copenhagen, Denmark. He has presented artist lectures and academic research nationally and internationally. Some examples of these presentations include “Ritual, Myth, Language and Memory,” Present Pasts/Present Futures International Conference, University of Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand; and “Streams and Consciousness: A Conversation with Sigmund Freud, St. Francis, and Charles Darwin,” 3rd SLS European Conference, University Paris 8 and Cité Internationale Universitaire.Specialties: Interdisciplinary Artist working in the areas of painting, installation art, video, and hybrid works.
