About Charles Lance

Charles E. Lance's work in the areas of performance measurement, assessment center validity, research methods, and structural equation modeling has appeared in such journals as Psychological Methods, Organizational Research Methods (ORM), Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Journal of Management and Structural Equation Modeling. His ORM article with Bob Vandenberg on measurement invariance is the most often cited article in ORM’s history and won the 2005 the RM Division’s Robert McDonald Advancement of Organizational Research Methodology Award and ORM’S 2009 Best Paper of the Decade Award. His 2006 ORM article on the origin and evolution of four statistical cutoff criteria won the Research Methods Division of the Academy of Management Best Paper of the Year Award. Dr. Lance is also co-editor of four books, including Performance Measurement: Current Perspectives and Future Challenges, Statistical and Methodological Myths and Urban Legends: Doctrine, Verity, and Fable in Organizational and Social Research, The Psychology of Assessment Centers, and More Statistical and Methodological Myths and Urban Legends. Dr. Lance is a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) and the American Psychological Association and is a member of the Society for Organizational Behavior. He is formerly Associate Editor of ORM, is on the editorial board of Human Performance, and Group & Organization Management and is former President of the Atlanta Society for Applied Psychology. Dr. Lance taught post-graduate classes in the areas of Psychometrics, Structural Equation Modeling, Beneath the Hood of The Publication Game, Meta-analysis and undergraduate classes in Psychological Testing, Psychology of the Workplace, and Introduction to Statistics. He was awarded the Psi Chi Graduate Teaching Award for Excellence in Instruction in Psychology in 1992 and 2006.
