About Charles Platt

In my 10 years as an IT Help Desk Specialist/Application Administrator, I have learned a lot about myself and technology. When I started, I was starry eyed, with visions of being a ninja or a Jedi or a guru, of being an expert at some esoteric bit of technology, of entering the hall of IT secrets and being initiated into the shadow world of being an administrator. Instead, I found that my real talents in IT are quite different. It turned out that the skills I learned before I was in IT were as important as my technical abilities, sometimes more so. The customer service and multitasking skills I picked up working as a roulette dealer made troubleshooting issues for clients much smoother, irregardless of their technical knowledge. Being able to dive into a new piece of software and figure it out quickly, that came from years of playing video games. Being able to document and explain technology to my clients was developed by years of writing video game and board game reviews. Patience and flexibility came from being a father. The joy of learning about and using technology is what drove me to enter the IT field. Helping people understand and get the most from technology is what makes me passionate about it.
