About Charles Shava

As the Acting Chief Executive Officer at National Social Security Authority of Zimbabwe (NSSA), I am responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, operations, and performance of the organization that provides social security and occupational safety and health services to millions of Zimbabweans. I have been in this role since July 2022, after serving as the Director of Occupational Safety and Health at NSSA for over a year.I have more than 10 years of experience in the fields of medicine, occupational health and safety, and social security, with a strong background in clinical practice, policy development, and regulatory compliance. I am a registered medical practitioner in Zimbabwe and Ireland, and a chartered member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). I hold a Master of Science degree in Occupational Health and Occupational Health and Safety from Middlesex University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Hygiene from the University of Manchester, and a Certificate in ISO 45001 Lead Auditor Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems from the British Standards Institute. My core competencies include analytical skills, training, strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and leadership. I am passionate about improving the health, safety, and well-being of workers and citizens, and ensuring that NSSA delivers on its mandate and vision of providing social protection and enhancing the quality of life in Zimbabwe. I am also committed to fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration within NSSA and with its partners and beneficiaries.
