About Charles Tully

1st class honours degree in Product Design. Prior to my final year I won a design competition for a 12 months paid industrial work placement with a major world-class manufacturer of Point of Sale solutions. My winning submission was a point of sale unit for the National Lottery. As an active member of the design team I was exposed to the engineers and production team gaining valuable experience in every aspect of manufacturing, including Prototyping, Plastic Injection Mouldings and Metal Fabrication. My design projects at University include (This is not an exhaustive list): • Lighting • Concept chairs • Collapsible bikes for taking on public transport • Desktop fans • Children’s multi-use toy store. • A rucksack capable of providing emergency shelter for stranded hikers. All of these projects had to demonstrate strong functionality and aesthetic qualities and all were developed through to sample stage (foam modelling and 3D printing). My final year project was a collection of products to improve safety and independence for dementia sufferers. I developed my concepts around a real-life case study. My research incorporated analyses of both qualitative and quantitative studies and involved interviews with a range of stakeholders including professionals, patients and carers. My projects demonstrate skills across the whole spectrum of product design from communicating the initial concept sketches to a variety of audiences and stakeholders, through to the final product. Proficient in Design software (eg Solid Works,Illustrator, Sketch up, Photoshop, Illustrator)
