About Charles Wade

I work as an applied demographer and general planning statistician where I research, compile, calculate, analyze, manage, and report demographic and socioeconomic data as it relates to urban/regional planning and economic development for a major planning commission in suburban Washington. Additionally, I am a geographer an independent scholar. As a cultural-historical and anthropological geographer, I specialize in heritage studies, concentrating on historical landscapes, material culture, cultural memory, and place/regional identities. I am also somewhat of an unordained anthropologist and cultural historian. My interests are global, but my scholarship has focused on the eastern United States, especially the Northeast. I take a particular interest in the confluence of geography, history, and anthropology, and my work draws significantly from historic preservation and historical archaeology. I am especially interested in landscapes and sites with unusual stories behind them. I am a published scholar, essayist, and photographer, and my work has been featured in both peer-reviewed, academic journals and popular publications.
