About Charlie Berman

Charles Berman was re-elected Receiver of Taxes with 65% of the vote in November 2019. Previously, Charlie was elected Receiver of Taxes in November 2015 and 2011. He also won a special election to a one-year term in November 2010. Now in his third full term as North Hempstead Receiver of Taxes, Charlie oversees the annual mailing of tax bills, the transmission of electronic bills to tax service organizations, and the receipt and processing of tax payments, including over payments made in person at Town Hall and at community collection sites. In 2010, Charlie brought the Tax Office online with the Town’s “311” Call Center enabling taxpayers to receive prompt answers to their tax questions. Charlie is dedicated to making the tax-payment process as convenient as possible. Toward this goal, the Tax Office accepts online credit card and check (ACH) payments, as well as payments at community tax collection sites. Additionally, Charlie’s community outreach programs regarding property tax exemptions and assessment grievances have helped many residents lower their tax payments. Charles Berman grew up in Nassau County and graduated from Lawrence High School. He has been a resident of Roslyn Heights since 1988. He is active in his community and Temple. He served as President of Temple Sinai of Roslyn from 2005-2007. During his tenure, Temple Sinai successfully completed the largest renovation and building project in its history. Charlie has been married for over 39 years to Lisa Berman, an accomplished actress and singer in community theatre on Long Island. They are the proud parents of Jeremy, a graduate of Northwestern University and Teachers College, Columbia University, a Manhasset Secondary School social studies teacher; Rebecca, a graduate of Penn State and an Account Executive at Innovid; and Ben, a graduate of Hofstra University and Touro Law School.
