The power of the Spa & Wellness industry has long been undervalued. But, if there is one good thing we can take from the global pandemic; it is the traction our sector has gained from the worldwide switch in focus to wellbeing. I’m Charlotte, the Human Resources Coordinator, formerly Therapy Manager, at the 5* spa retreat, Moddershall Oaks. I have 9 years’ hands-on experience within the spa industry; starting out as a Spa Therapist, and then diversifying into roles such as Spa Receptionist, Head Therapist, Spa Trainer, Assistant Spa Manager, Therapy Manager, HR Administrator and now HR Coordinator. In addition to this, I have also gained my First-Class BSc Honours in International Spa Management which provided me with invaluable knowledge regarding this sector. I believe the skills acquired from my time serving on the “frontline” of the spa industry lent heavily to the effective management of my team of therapists and optimisation of treatment sales. Additionally, my dissertation topic;"Is Repetitive Strain Injury Contributing Towards Absenteeism in Spa Therapists?" allowed me to gain a wider view on Workplace Wellness. Both of these combined have given me some great tools to progress confidently in my current Human Resources position. Now, as the sole HR professional at Moddershall Oaks, I manage the full HR function across the business, supporting a team of 140 employees. I take full ownership of the entire employee journey - from recruitment, onboarding and performance, through to employee wellbeing, engagement, training and development. I also deliver spa treatment training to a 30-strong team of therapists and provide certified qualifications in Amethyst Trust Oncology Massage and NEOM Wellbeing treatments.
