I discovered my passion for Civil Engineering the summer leading into college. I was job shadowing a Civil Engineer and was shown around a local ongoing large-scale construction site. After taking a closer look into the project, I was intrigued by the amount of detail and collaboration required to produce such an outcome. While working summers in the industry, speaking to contractors and the public became a necessity in my line of work. I learned how to communicate with a variety of types of people. As acting water specialist, I inspected job sites and their accordance to MPCA erosion & sediment control regulations. Additionally, I collaborated with team members & surveyed job sites. My varied work day magnified the importance to prioritize tasks into a schedule. Working in the civil engineering field has given me the opportunity to pursue my passion & develop meaningful relationships. The quality of relationships with both your co-workers and clients will often lead to future successes.
