About Chase Hommeyer

I am currently pursuing a master's degree in Counseling Psychology and Expressive Art Therapy at CIIS. I am eager to deepen my understanding of play therapy, as colleagues and mentors have often noted my playful spirit and ability to connect with children. I remain committed to uplifting children’s voices and co-creating a more fair and equitable world. Growing up doing theater, I've always loved connecting with others through playful emotional expression. At Princeton University, I minored in Theater but also discovered a passion for data justice, majoring in Sociology with a certificate in Statistics & Machine Learning. In my early career, I utilized data science to support housing justice at The Eviction Lab under Matthew Desmond (Pulitzer Prize-winning author of "Evicted"), advocated for incarcerated people by documenting COVID-19 cases in prisons at the UCLA Law School, and improved education and social services at Mathematica Policy Research. I have been deeply blessed to receive mentorship from activists building just and caring communities. I grew profoundly while living for a year in Varanasi, India, facilitating recreational arts activities for the children living in the red light district and being mentored by activists Ajeet and Manju Singh. In the Bay Area, my home, I’ve been a part of spiritual and activist communities like Tassajara Zen Center, the Western Service Workers Association, Canticle Farm, and the Fierce Vulnerability Network. Eventually, I realized my true gifts and passion lies with working with children, so I pivoted to work with youth. Since 2020, I've worked as a writing tutor and at multiple schools. I aim to help students see the inherent value of their thoughts and support their emotional growth.
