Background
About Chase Madden
With over a decade of management experience in conflict/post-conflict environments and master’s degree, Chase has proven his ability to deliver the highest level of performance despite the circumstances or challenges. He is innately critical in handling complex situations, has demonstrated the ability to effectively communicate and build report with a diverse set of actors, and maintains the skills, patience, and understanding necessary to thrive in culturally diverse and complex environments. His experience has given him foresight which enables him to develop solutions to mitigate risks and provide advice related to operational challenges encountered in a post-conflict setting. Chase is from the United States and grew up in Florida. He graduated cum laude from the University of Florida in 2006, then served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Madagascar. Following his Peace Corps service, Chase began working with a non-governmental organisation (NGO) in the rebel-held areas of Sudan. In that role, Chase managed a major construction program in highly-remote villages across the southwestern Nuba Mountains. He was directly responsible for the management of every aspect of the program – including finance, human resources, logistics, mobilisation, budgeting, accounting, payroll, community relations, security, quality control, fleet management, and procurement. After completing construction of eighty-six facilities in Nuba, Chase moved to Lakes State, South Sudan where he continued to manage construction projects. In 2010, Chase began working in South Darfur as a food program manager for an NGO. Soon after starting this role, a colleague was abducted and held for ransom. Due to the change in circumstances, Chase’s responsibilities shifted to managing the close of base and all operations. Chase has consistently demonstrated the ability to adapt to changing conditions and perform in high-stress environments. Following his work in South Darfur, Chase began working in the private sector for a USAID contractor as a Regional Program Manager on a conflict mitigation project in Sudan. In 2012, Chase moved from Sudan to New York to begin post-graduate studies. In 2014, he earned a Master of International Affairs (MIA) degree from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs with a concentration on International Security Policy. During his time at Columbia, his studies included courses on management, economics, statistics, security issues, counter-terrorism, & conflict mitigation.
