About Chase Rowe

Passionate about applying data science/statistics/ML to social issues and beyond. I believe cutting-edge data science is at its best when used to protect others and make the world a better place. I started down the data science road as an undergrad at UC San Diego where I earned a B.S. in Cognitive Science w/ a specialization in machine learning and neural computation. My undergraduate coursework was largely focused on calculus, linear algebra, probability & statistics and upper-div applied ML. At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic I then moved on to UC Berkeley where I earned an M.A. in Statistics. My coursework there was focused on statistical computing, more probability & stats, as well as applied ML which I opted for. Throughout both my undergraduate and graduate programs I worked on a variety of end-to-end data science projects ranging from NBA shooting trend analyses to ML model development addressing income inequality. Since graduating last May, I've been working as a full-time intern at the UC Davis Security Operations Center, where I helped build up our original ML/stats-powered actionable intelligence project for cybersecurity. I developed firsthand the scalable analyses and models that enabled us to identify high-value targets at our own organization as well as attacks that were missed by vendor platforms.
