About Chauncey Garrett

With a background in Computational Inorganic Chemistry, I have a unique perspective on systems and design. I understand the need for reproducibility and automation—that incorporating both into a workflow that includes test-driven development leads to a consistent, efficient end product. I have found an Agile methodology focused on the minimization of variables delivers an outcome subject primarily to systematic error; this approach limits backpedaling, while allowing flexibility to deliver a result that works. In short, DRY KISSes (that's Don't Repeat Yourself and Keep It Simple, Stupid) are my development manifesto. What I’ve worked on- I've published research concerning the modeling of 3rd row Transition Metals for use in a gas-to-liquid catalytic process- Gaussian Tools is a set of shell (Zsh, awk, sed) and python scripts that I've used in my computational chemistry research to extract data from Gaussian output files (10s, sometimes 100s of thousands of lines long)- Chauncey.io is a CMS-free static website I built using HTML5, jQuery, Jekyll with custom Ruby plugins, and Sass, and serve on an Ubuntu server with NGINX. On Chauncey.io, I showcase my projects, write about tools and technology, and test UX/UI design.I’m really good at- Automation- Details- PrecisionWhat I’m looking to do next:I'd like to combine my science background with my enthusiasm for web technologies. Think data extraction plus D3.js to communicate important statistical results to educate either the general public or those empowered to make policy changes.
