About Cheena Kanwal

An environmental conservationist in practice, trained and worked on principles of non-conventional design and sustainable building technologies. A well qualified and creative professional with an in-depth knowledge of development issues, an advanced standard of intellectual, practical and people-oriented skills; and the proven ability to work within and across multiple disciplines. Independently consulting since over a decade, she is also the co-founder of DRONAH - a development organization based in north India leading the Environmental Conservation activities and projects for it. Being an alumnus of Centre for Environment Education, Ahmedabad (1993), her extra-professional interest is focused on development communication and media strategies for outreach and advocacy especially for environment protection & promotion of renewable energy. She has also volunteered at British Trust for Conservation Volunteers BTCV, BBC Radio Leicester and at various times with theater groups in Delhi, Shimla and abroad. She has associated with a number of international development agencies such as - Asian Development Bank (ADB), GIZ, UNESCO, Society for Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA), ICLEI South Asia, USAID, INTACH, Institute of Integrated Rural Development (IIRD) and several government departments on projects of Governance, Planning, Energy, Transport and Tourism.
