About Chelsi Ryan

Chelsi has a demonstrated history in providing leadership and structure for the development and implementation of education and community based programming. With experience in policy and procedure development, governance, research, and advocacy work, she has a well-rounded system thinking approach to business operations and community well-being. She completed her Master of Education in 2023 at the University of Calgary. Her work focuses on community resilience frameworks, place-making relationships, and their application to long-term recovery post-natural disaster. Her latest published research, Place on Fire: A Curriculum of Resiliency, is available in the Canadian Journal of New Scholars in Education. She also holds a Bachelor of Education, with Distinction, from the University of Alberta and a Certificate of Administration from Keyano College. In her role as the Senior Manager of Volunteer, Education and Technology Services for the Wood Buffalo 2023 Arctic Winter Games allowed her to utilize this skill set to develop policy, procedure, and strategic direction related to the recruitment, development, allocation, and appreciation of a volunteer workforce. She was also responsible for the successful application and stewardship of over $4 million dollars in grant funding. She utilizes this grant administration experience to support organizations in the pursuit of grant applications to advance their mission and vision. Chelsi has a strong volunteer background in the municipal and provincial community. With previous service as Vice Chair for the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo Board of Directors, she regularly advocated for improvements to services in the rural communities and a responsible approach to program and event offerings across the region. She also served as a member of the Negotiating Subcommittee for the Alberta Teachers' Association Local 48 and Director of Global Education for GEOEC. Past volunteer roles include President, Education Students' Association Local 9; Governor, Students' Association of Keyano College; Director, Alberta Student Executive Council; Representative, Campus Alberta Open Education Resource Committee. Chelsi demonstrates a strong interdisciplinary skill set that allows her to bring together strong procedures and policies to organize people and effective programming. She hopes that her work showcases her commitment to development, place making and keeping, community resiliency, public policy, and the experiences of rural Canadians.
