About Cheryl Caves

I’m a senior operator, fixer, and trusted number two to CEOs and Boards within the Thoroughbred breeding and racing industry. Working at the point where strategy meets reality, I bring structure to complex situations, unblocking issues, and making sure decisions turn into action in highly regulated, stakeholder-led environments. For the past decade, I’ve been accountable for the British arm of the European Breeders Fund, working closely with Boards, regulators, and senior industry stakeholders. My remit spans strategy, governance, operational delivery, financial performance, and reputation management. During this time, I’ve led sustained organisational growth, including overseeing an increase in income of 50% to over £2m, while strengthening governance and long-term strategic alignment.Alongside my executive role, I’ve taken on sector-wide leadership through Women in Racing, focusing on leadership development, mentoring, and succession planning. This work reflects how I operate day to day: pragmatic, steady, and focused on building resilient organisations and future talent pipelines within the industry.I’m known for calm judgment, strong Board relationships, and being the person leaders trust to take complex issues off their plate, particularly where governance, credibility, and stakeholder confidence matter.I value connecting with Chairs, CEOs, and senior leaders across racing and breeding who are navigating growth, change, or complexity and value a strong, trusted 2iC.
