About Cheryl E. Woodson

I have seen eldercare from both sides: as a fellowship-trained, academic geriatrician who decided to work in the community and managed care, and as a daughter who navigated my mother's ten-year journey with Alzheimer's disease. I know professional and family caregivers can not only survive but thrive as powerful advocates for people with chronic illness despite a healthcare system that struggles to overcome its roots in fragmented episodes of acute care. In the midst of my long career, I also married, raised children, and continually grew, reinventing myself to follow my dreams. I have realized the dream of becoming an award-winning, multi-published author. I am in love with writing. My first book was TO SURVIVE CAREGIVING: A Daughter's Experience, A Doctor's Advice, an eldercare resource that shares my unique, compassionate Doctor-Daughter perspective to empower families to give excellent eldercare without destroying their health, finances, or relationships. The second edition won first place in the 2022, 30th Annual Writers Digest Award for Best Self-Published Book, Inspirational/Sefl-Help Category. I also published a companion book, The Doctor is IN: Answering Your Questions About How to Survive Caregiving, to address specific caregiver questions to complex to tackle in a general overview. Under the pseudonym, Teria Robens (TR), I also write fiction that celebrates grown women's transition from doormat to diva as we find our own joy after years of taking care of everyone else. What the Mirror Sees won the Oustanding Fiction Award from the African American Arts Alliance of Chicago. I wrote Dear Lauren, Love Mom: 31 Days of Affirmations for My Daughter, for Myself, and for YOU, to encourage my daughter through a life-threatening illness. I found that it also healed the hidden "little girl hurts" that still affected me. The words and glorious nature photography will soothe the hurting, little girls that hide inside even the most powerful, accomplished women. Attendees at my presentations requested a study guide, and I published the workbook/journal in 2022. Another TR title, The Sounds of Cajun Spice, is coming and several other projects are in the pipeline.
