About Cheryl Stroud

Cheryl grew up on a small farm in central Mississippi where she was surrounded by cows, horses, cats, dogs and undeveloped spaces. She has enjoyed many professional experiences including work in Industry, Academic Research / Teaching and private Veterinary Practice. She discovered a passion for One Health in 2008 when she returned to North Carolina (after a 20 year absence) and was instrumental in 2010 in creation of the North Carolina One Health Collaborative which she Chaired until her appointment late 2013 as Executive Director of the One Health Commission. She served as the AVMA representative to the One Health Commission (OHC) from April, 2011 until the recent move into OHC leadership. During her previous time on the OHC Board she helped ‘activate’ the OHC website and chaired a subcommittee on membership categories. Appointed Vice Chair of the OHC Board in November 2012, she spearheaded OHC collaboration on an inter-disciplinary, international bat rabies education poster campaign. Among the many current pursuits of the OHC (https://tinyurl.com/OHC-AnnReport-2020) is support since 2016 for creation and expansion of an International Student One Health Alliance. Cheryl's husband (retired) of 27 years, also a Veterinarian, spent his career in academic research and Veterinary administration. They have a grown son and daughter. Cheryl enjoys outdoor activities such a hiking, riding her horse, gardening, writing, sewing, reading, making and listening to music and traveling both nationally and internationally. Her forte is bringing people and ideas together.
