Background
About Chloe B.
Chloe Brooks-Kistler is currently a podcast producer and content creator for Dailydose719. She got her start in journalism and radio at 16, taking a class on citizen journalism at the Tim Gill Center for Public Media in Colorado Springs where she won the center's 2016-2017 Citizen Journalism Contest for Southern Colorado. Working with KRCC, the local NPR affiliate for Southern Colorado, Chloe learned the ins and outs of radio journalism under the mentorship of local All Things Considered host Mike Procell, secured a role as a guest star on a local segment, and edited multiple audio pieces for reporters. When she earned a full ride scholarship for Colorado College, Brooks-Kistler increased her responsibilities at KRCC to include voicing and editing weekly PSAs and producing her own stories. She was a member of the station’s Community Advisory Board.Through her position in the Bonner Fellowship Program at Colorado College, a highly selective community engagement program designed to help develop student leaders from underrepresented backgrounds who seek to transform their communities, Chloe created her own podcast called The 719 Perspective, which aimed to share the diverse opinions of controversial topics in the Colorado Springs community. She has interviewed community leaders from the mayor of Colorado Springs to the president of Colorado College. While Chloe has managed to land interviews with high-profile members of the community, some of the most transformative interviews she has done has been with local community organizations, such as one with Alissa Smith, communications manager of Inside/Out Youth Services, a local organization which builds access, equity, and power with LGBTQIA2+ young people, through leadership, advocacy, community-building, education, and peer support. In the summer of 2022, Chloe won a Faculty Student Collaborative Grant from Colorado College 2 to produce her own podcast for the college’s Italian department. She produced, edited, and voiced the podcast series Sì, esistiamo: Podcasts Centering the Experiences of Afroitalians to raise awareness of Italian citizenship laws for an American audience. The project is a combination of her background in political science and Italian and her love for storytelling and audio production. She presented her work at the 2022 Colorado College Summer Research Symposium in front of a live audience.
