About Chloe Keel
Chloe is a lecturer in Criminology and Criminal Justice school in addition to a member of the Griffith Criminology Institute at Griffith University. She is also the Early Career Researcher representative for the Australian Community Capacity Study (ACCS), a multi-million, multisite, longitudinal study that seeks to understand how changes in a community's social disadvantage, ethnic diversity and residential mobility impact upon the development of social networks and informal social control over time. She is an emerging scholar on safety and victimisation in place with a focus on gendered experiences and migrant experiences. Chloe completed her PhD in Criminology at the Migration and Inclusion Research Centre at Monash University. Her doctoral research explored the neighbourhood context and perceptions of vulnerability for women and men. Chloe worked on a several projects on safety and victimisation in community and place including evaluations of community crime prevention initiatives, migrant and refugee women's experiences of safety and security, the effects of hate crime on community perceptions and the relationship between the media and fear of crime. Chloe has recently completed a post doctorial research fellowship at the Monash Gender and Family Violence Prevention Centre. During this fellowship she worked on several projects including a study that examines the gendered nature of safety in regional Victoria. As a part of this study Chloe explored the influence high levels of gender violence in communities on residents experiences of living in these places. Chloe also worked on a nationwide study on migrant and refugee women's experiences of workplace sexual harassment and the latest progression of the ACCS, which uses state of the art mobile app technology to develop innovative strategies for improving safety in communities, workplaces, and other places that people visit. Her research builds evidence to influence policy. This is most notable in the impact of the Migrant and Refugee Women’s Safety and Security Study which has influenced the budgetary allocations of funds for women on temporary visas in two successive federal budgets. Chloe has expertise conducting quantitative and qualitative research methods with a particular interest in spatial methodologies. She has published her research in a number of high-quality international journals in addition to commissioned reports. Chloe is the Queensland representative of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Criminology and a thematic group leader for Spatiality and Justice group.
