About Chloe Sutcliffe

I am currently employed by the RHS as their research fellow in sustainable horticulture, working on quantifying the environmental handprints and footprints of a range of horticultural management activities. I previously worked at Cranfield University's Water Science Institute as Research Fellow in Water and Food System Resilience on projects looking at ways to build resilience to water scarcity and drought in temperate and tropical agriculture. I have also worked on a range of short-term postdoctoral contracts at Reading and Leeds University. My PhD research explored the uptake of modern maize cultivars as a climate change adaptation strategy amongst Malawian smallholders. I employed social research techniques together with analysis of rainfall and temperature data. In my current role I use social and environmental data to assess pro-environmental gardening behaviours. In addition to my research experience, I am a trained horticulturist, and have worked at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and for Garden Organic.
