Oversaw technical support division throughout the growth from a small web services company to a multi-thousand server web services and colocation company over multiple locations. Designed and implemented processes for routine tasks as well as the growth of the network from a simple network design to a fault tolerant network. Hired and managed growth of the technical staff from myself to a staff of 6. Accomplishments include: Oversaw the growth of the company from a 100 server data center to a server deployment over multiple locations. Trained new technical staff members on operating systems, networks, shell scripting, automation, virtualization, cluster file systems and troubleshooting skills. Continuously improved the performance and reliability of managed services such as Apache, MySQL, Squid, Sendmail, Postfix, Lustre, Gluster, and NFS taking new code and techniques into account. Created and improved a system to automate routine tasks and processes by using PHP, C, Perl and UNIX shell scripts. Designed and implemented a 20 server cluster dedicated to a single task that is centrally managed and fully fault tolerant. Implemented spam filtering to ourselves and our clients thereby eliminating over 98% of all unwanted email. Implemented Xen and OpenVZ to consolidate smaller application services to a small cluster and allow automatic rollover in case of a hardware failure. Worked with other Tier 1 networks to establish, tune and repair broadband connections. Worked with a wide variety of customers to customize solutions that fit their needs taking into account future growth. Consulted with customers to debug and streamline their applications to improve performance and reliability. Worked with the independent computer security community to ensure security of the installed applications. Implemented the Sguil/Snort IDS system to prevent known worms and exploits from reaching servers within our network.
