About Chris Bouchard

Virtual Production Supervisor & Consultant - I am an experienced creative technology leader specialising in virtual production, realtime cinematography, virtual art department and LED Volumes. I've worked for ILM’s Stagecraft team, and Lux Machina on major studio films, as well as producing, directing and VFX supervising on innovative independent XR and film projects. Virtual Production is changing the way that we make films. As a technology expert and experienced practical filmmaker, I help directors, cinematographers and VFX Supervisors harness the incredible new techniques of realtime cinematography, previs, ICVFX, from VR to colour science, and new real-time workflows. With 15 years working on major studio films and VFX driven TV shows both on-set and in post with Framestore, Technicolor and LucasFilm, I have a broad base combined with leadership experience on innovative independent films as a director, producer and creative lead, giving clear insight into the challenges of development, pre-production, and previz. I have also led film crews as a producer and director to deliver three VFX driven live-action feature films, available on Amazon and Netflix, and directed award winning 'fan film' The Hunt for Gollum, leading a team of more than 50 crew and VFX artists. Separately, in the R&D/technology field, with an engineering background originally, I have innovated new workflows both on-set and in post-production for major industry studios Framestore, Technicolor, Dolby and ILM. My current interest is pushing forward the creative and practical use of real-time engine technology for cinematic storytelling, including XR and virtual film production, and empowering filmmakers with intuitive ways to harness these amazing technologies, as we forge all-new practices for the future of filmmaking.
