About Chris Conley

I teach chemistry and physics at Tabor Academy, a boarding school on Sippican Harbor in Marion, Massachusetts. My courses range from Honors Chemistry and Physics to an Advanced Topics course that runs like a college lab experience. I love the moments when a concept clicks for a student who thought science was not for them. Coaching is the other half of my professional life. After several years working with the Tabor Girls' Varsity Basketball program, I am stepping into a new role as head of the Tabor Varsity Sailing program. It is a natural fit for a school where the water is central to everything we do. Sailing at Tabor is not a club sport. It is part of the place's identity. I have been part of the Tabor sailing program for over 20 years as an assistant coach, and I am now taking the helm as head of the varsity program. I am excited to lead a team that develops not just competitive sailors, but young people who learn to read conditions, make decisions under pressure, and take ownership of a boat and a team. At a boarding school, the work does not stop at the classroom door. I also serve as a house parent in one of our dormitories and as an academic advisor to a group of students. That full-time presence in students' lives is what makes this kind of school different, and it is one of the things I value most about working at Tabor. I enjoy exploring how AI tools are changing what is possible in the classroom, and I am always looking for ways to bring that into my teaching. Outside of school, you will find me on the water, experimenting with 3D printing and CAD design, or tracking where our alums end up competing at the next level.
